what i wore: (spring fever)

So I put this outfit on without my jeans rolled up, and I was all "you know what this outfit needs? some slouch socks." Remember in the 80s when you would wear like, three pairs of different color slouch socks all at once? No? Well, I did, and it was awesome. I dug through my sock drawer and lo and behold I still had a pair and threw them on. Then I went to the park and got a Ninja Turtle shaped ice cream. It was a good day.

wild!

I'm kinda sad I missed out on this dress by Triptych. I first saw it on Rebecca on her The Clothes Horse blog and thought it was pretty rad. Totally bummed it is already sold out! Total knock off of Christopher Kane's awesome gorilla and alligator dresses:

what i wore: i like turtles.

Friday, Friday. Gettin' down on Friday. With turtles. Because I like turtles. So I'm gonna wear all my turtle wear at once. I'm embracing my inner turtle power.

This collection has been out for a bit (and Kate Blanchett wore one of the dresses famously at this years Oscars), but I just gotta post these. Givenchy's Spring 2011 Couture collection was amazing. It's like a combination of Audubon books I used to read as a kid with all the bird photos in them, geisha, and well, a bit of sci-fi all wrapped into one. Daaaaaaang. Sign me up!

what i wore: gilded.

The theme of me is always heather grey shirts. I dunno why, but I am like a moth to a flame to any shirt that is heather grey. Go ahead, ask my closet. SPEAKING OF moths. Let's talk about the prettier cousin of the moth. Butterflies. I got this butterfly belt at Vintage Heaven last summer and well. I dunno. I dig it. And gold shoes, gold belt. It's so matchy-matchy, isn't it? But whatevs. I decided to go with knotty (seriously, I need a haircut, it's one big dreadlock most of the time) side ponytail instead of fishtail braid, for everyone's sake.

STAY GOLDEN, FRIENDS.

what i wore: (backwards)

I kinda heart my Zana Bayne harness, so I figured I'd mix it up a little and wear it backwards and under my clothes. Because, uhh...I'm such a risktaker. Actually I just liked the back part and thought it would make a cool looking neckpiece, kind of like the ones in Lanvin's Spring 2011 RTW collection. But I did a little walking around the 'hood today, after a few days of gloom and rain, it was pretty nice to get out and stroll about!

Suspender Cullottes by One Teaspoon

I'd wear these around my house, while having a one-woman dance party. Probably.

what i wore: she's the queen.

...king, Cry Baby. So in today's edition of "Johnny Depp shirts I wear" this is my Cry Baby one. If you have not seen this movie nor liked it, you are dead to me. DEAD. I'm going to a grunge themed birthday party tonight, so I'm getting in the mood for it by wearing a tutu. Errr...a petticoat, apparently. I'll add my tiara and flannel later. I have sort of a cool outfit planned, I think! We'll see how it goes. Or maybe I'll just wear this. Whatevs. In the words of Kurt Cobain, it's better to burn out than to fade away. Or something. And something about being doll parts. I don't know where I'm going with this. Total poseur.

PS- I promise I won't be in a fishtail braid next time. Maybe.

I'm all about Twilight's Edward for sure, but he doesn't hold a candle to the original Edward heartthrob.

Not that I need another harness or anything, but if I did...

what i wore: space adventures!

Today I went to the Adler Planetarium, and wore my first ever successful fishtail braid! Dreams do come true, people. Anyway. Planetarium was RAD. Even RADDER with my Black Milk galaxy leggings (totally check out their shop, if you haven't already). Actually, the museum kind of left a little to be desired -- however, it was still all things space so that was cool with me, since I'm easy to please when it comes to to the universe. As long as I can wear these leggings. Blast off!

side fishtail braid.

I wanna do this to my hair. I always try to do a fishtail braid, but then it comes out looking like a knotted mess. I'd say it was a complicated process, but it's really not! Blame it on my lack of coordination. After watching this video and seeing it in Free People's new catalog, I think this is my time to SHINE in fishtail braid making. Today. Thank you YouTube and your hair tutorials!

My inspiration is the braid done on the models at the Fall RTW 2010 Christian Dior show:

what i wore: helloooo sun!

K. SO. It's finally starting to look like the light at the end of the tunnel around here in the midwest wintery parts. While it's technically Spring, Winter's been all "Guuuuurl, I don't think so, get outta my face with that. Here's some snow, fools." It's been cold winter jacket season for the majority of this so-called "spring" so far. Sure, there's been a few glimmers of hope where Spring's all "HAY GUYZ WHAT'S UP" but then immediately Winter is all "NUH-UH" and then I'm all "CRY" and so on. But I digress! Today it's 80 degrees, so I'm wearing crochet. And color. Imma try and coax out Spring to stay for good. Or at least for week or two. Fingers crossed!

(triceratops!)

(Either I'm a flamingo or it's "bend and snap" time. Probably both!)

Skeptical.

free people catalog: april 2011

I got my Free People catalog in the mail this week and I've been wanting to post about it so HERE IT IS. Because holy poop, I need everything in it. Of course, I can't particularly afford everything in it (please send money), but I can dream, can't I? Sasha Pivovarova stars -- along with a peacock, a parrot, and even a cute baby tiger. It's like I'm a wee little babe again and I'm seeing Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' record cover (duh) all over again and falling in looooove. With the baby tiger. Not Michael or Sasha. They're both rad, but I just want that baby tiger. And to swing around in long skirts and fringy accessories. And possibly do some thriller moves. I'm not sayin' but I'm just sayin'.
