savage beauty (mcqueen at the met)

Holy moly! I was in NYC this weekend to go to the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibit at The Met. And well, it was AMAZING. Seeing everything in person -- wow. It took everything in me not to reach out and touch everything, but I snapped a few photos (in which photos aren't allowed, but HOW COULD I NOT? -- besides, there were plenty of others doing the same thing, and it only seemed like they enforced it in certain rooms.) But ahhh, the armadillos! It was a dream.

(cities in dust jewelry)

Chicago jewelry designer Cities In Dust is worth checking out. I got this rabbit foot necklace today, and I think it's my new favorite! (And maybe it will bring me luck, too.)

what i wore: (are you a hunter?)

"Are you a hunter?" is what a few people have said to me lately. I guess it makes sense, I mean -- I wear animal bones and fox tails and other animal parts on me. I don't know. I think they just look cool; it's what things are made out of! At Pitchfork I also got an antler piece necklace from etsy seller highflight57. Maybe this makes me a total CREEP.

(dress: Rachel Pally, which i cut off to make it slightly shorter since it was sitting at a weird right under the knee length)

très cool.

Emma of Très Awesome stopped me on the second day of Pitchfork Music Festival took a photo of my coyote jawbone necklace for her street style blog as well!

(you should totes get one here)

what i wore: (to pitchfork music fest)

This past weekend was Pitchfork Music Festival. It was insanely hot, and I insanely wore jeans to the fest, along with my black ribs swimsuit by Black Milk Clothing. And since it was a swimsuit and I was so hot, I constantly felt the urge to take my pants off, but it probably wouldn't have been appropriate. Though, maybe someone should have told that to the dudes I saw in speedos walking around there.

(suit: Black Milk Clothing; necklaces: Erica Weiner)

BUT. I got my photo taken for Refinery29 (by Amy Creyer of Chicago Street Style, no less), which was pretty cool:

Oh yeah, and my Fox Tail is from etsy seller The Gypsy Fox.

what i wore: (rainbow madras)

Summer in the city.

(dress: Tibi; shoes: Mia; necklace: from Hawaii)

(whale sounds)

Decorative Art by John Birdsong on etsy (all made out of recycled fence wood!). That humpback he is selling holds a special place in my heart as it reminds me of this giant "Save the Whales!" poster I used to have in my room when I was little. I got it by collecting Bubble Yum package UPC codes and I was mega-excited when I finally ate enough gum to get it (all that gum chewing totally paid off in the end!). It hung proudly in my room for years. So, it's only right I got one now and continue on in the tradition. (Yep, that's mine on my wall above)

And check out this T Rex on his etsy site!

what i wore: (SPACE.)

Black Milk leggings are my JAM. James Lillis is the coolest. I'm in love with these galaxy leggings, and find myself staring into the abyss of the print all the time. And! This is the second shirt I got from AllSaints, and I absolutely love it. I think I've worn it three days now. When I first tried it on I was confused as to which holes I was supposed to put my arm holes in, but I think I got it all figured out now. I mean, it's not rocket science. SPACE.

i don't know what he's saying, but i like it.

I would rather be ashes than dust! I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze that it should be stifled by dry rot. I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet. The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.

what i wore: (it's a dingelhopper)

I got my AllSaints package in the mail today! So, immediately I tried this on -- this is not really what I wore today. It's all a clever ruse. And I swear I wore shoes. But this dress is like a giant bedsheet put together with a few ties into a dress. I kind of love it, and I kind of feel like Ariel from The Little Mermaid. You know, the part where she sells her voice to the Sea Witch for a pair of legs and THEN meets Prince Eric but not before Flounder, Sebastian, and Scuttle help her with her outfit by fashioning a sail from a boat into a dress?

Like this.

Totes.

what it wore: (put a bird on it)

Walking around this weekend, I went to one of my favorite shops that has a mixture of vintage and new pieces. I found this vintage bird necklace and welp, not buying bird necklaces is for the birds (see what I did there?).

dear photograph

This has been circling the internet for a week or two now, but in case you haven't seen it, Dear Photograph is a blog of reader submitted photos of "old photos from the past in the present" -- pretty neat photo project idea!

See all the submissions (or submit your own!) here.

what i wore: (mustard)

Where have you gone, ingwa;melero? Their last collection was in 2008, only to disappear and never have a collection I've seen since. I miss their leather cutout designs, I miss their musk. I'm a mess without them. I think when this is all over with me and ingwa;melero should get an apartment together.
