So I'm here! The trouble with having a blog about things I fashionably like is that to maintain it, you have to dress fashionable all the time. I mean, I suppose I could start a sweatpants chic blog, right? Kidding, I don't own any sweatpants, so I wouldn't even be good at that. (But I have taken a liking to high waisted pants, which are a serious substitute.) I haven't really been inspired to photograph what I'm wearing at all lately because I've been mostly wearing boring stuff so I've succumbed to failure. On top of that, one of my camera lenses was stolen while I was in LA (boo), and well, it's too cold and and all I want to do is hibernated and sit on my couch and eat chips.

But I got this new necklace from Free People a few days ago and I kind of love it. I should become better at accessorizing because I mostly wear grey t-shirts and jeans all the time now, so I think a good accessory really helps switch things up a bit, right?! Anyway, I vow to do a post once I get my new Luxury Jones boots in, I swear. SO EXCITED.

Recently I took a trip to Los Angeles, and here are some photos! I went to see the Cabazon Dinosaurs, which you may remember from the greatest movie of ALL TIME (/kanye), Pee Wee's Big Adventure. Since then, they've turned it into a creationist center, which is all sorts of hilarious to see lions and sheep figures in the midst of giant dinosaurs. Fantastic. I also went to The Getty, whose architecture is reason enough to validate a visit. For now, I'm back in chilly Chicago.

So, in case you're wondering, my hair's not so red anymore. Though some remnants of red still remain, most of it has faded out with washing it. I guess that's the downside of red -- it never stays put. I haven't really been posting much lately -- I dislike most of my winter clothing options and need to go shopping, STAT. Though, I also have so save up for a million things, one of which is the trip to Los Angeles I'm taking next month (which I also mentioned in my last post, so as you can tell, I'm excited about it. So I finally bit the bullet and dyed my hair red again! I got my hair trimmed a bit too. I've wanted to cut my hair off for a while, but I think a few people I know would shed a few tears if that happened, so...a compromise. I'm still getting used to it, but red fades so fast, I should enjoy it while it lasts. (Hey, that rhymes! It's like a John Mellencamp song.)

For Halloween, I went as SPACE! which gave me an awesome excuse to buy this Black Milk Blue Galaxy Dress. I thought I couldn't really wear it much, since I don't go to a lot of places that a short tight galaxy printed dress is appropriate, but it also doubles as a longer tank top for me, so now my love of space self can wear it all the time. SPACE! (Also, who needs a haircut? I DO.)

Okay. So now are you are ready? For the jelly. Fish. Jellyfish. I got these yesterday, and I told myself this would be the last pair of James Lillis' Black Milk Clothing printed leggings I bought. BUT man if they haven't swayed me into buying more. Not because I don't like them or anything (they are totally awesome, for the record) but my dilemma is: HOW does one fit printed leggings into their wardrobe? I mean, I feel like I could have pulled this off in high school or something, but now? There's only so many places these are appropriate, now that I'm supposed to be some sort of adult. But I think the jellyfish are stinging my brain somehow through these leggings because MAN THEY ARE COOL I WANT TO WEAR BLACK MILK LEGGINGS ALL THE TIME. Time to plan a trip to the Shedd Aquarium. I have a love/hate relationship with these shoes. I got them last year, and yes, while they are awesome and all that, they remind me of winter nearing and UGH PLEASE NO. I used to trek in these babies all over town in the snow, and the 6 inch platform aides as leverage in the several feet of it we got last year (and I surprisingly didn't break an ankle). I'm feeling like this might be my last Chicago winter, though. I can't take much more of this whole snow thing, you know? But football season started today, and so it begins, as we transition into fall. I did a little change up on the laces to plain white -- I think now they look more like rollerskates which is RAD. I think instead of walking I'll just mime skate in these from now on.

Hey guys! I'm happy to share with you that I paired up with Emma of Très Awesome to do a Blogger Spotlight on my blog! It was super cool meeting Emma and she snapped a few photos of me for her street style blog. AND I am very happy to show you my new Zana Bayne harness -- DANG, right?! I love that thing. The night before these pictures were taken, I learned how to do a 5-part braid, and let me tell ya, you kind of need another set of arms to do it. But once you do it a few times, you're good to go! I used this tutorial by this sweet little lady if you want to try it (thank god for the internets):

It's that time of year again and it feels like time has gone by so quickly since the last one! Yeeesh. This time, I only went one day, which was yesterday. I think I am getting festivaled out, you know? I picked up this AllSaints dress when I was in NYC to wear to it to Lolla, because I just fell in love with the color. And AllSaints styles and cuts -- how do they do it? Decorative Art by John Birdsong on etsy (all made out of recycled fence wood!). That humpback he is selling holds a special place in my heart as it reminds me of this giant "Save the Whales!" poster I used to have in my room when I was little. I got it by collecting Bubble Yum package UPC codes and I was mega-excited when I finally ate enough gum to get it (all that gum chewing totally paid off in the end!). It hung proudly in my room for years. So, it's only right I got one now and continue on in the tradition. (Yep, that's mine on my wall above)

I'm super excited to have a place to grow some plants, and I just bought a hibiscus plant! They are actually one of my favorites, and remind me of a trip I took last year to Hawaii. The light at my place is perfectly sunny for them, so it's starting to bloom! Hope you all have a sweet 4th of July if you are the US...and if not, welp, have a good 4th of July anyway, with less independence celebrating.

Sooooo. Summertimes. I've been outside a lot this past weekend, which felt wonderful. I just moved to a new place, and it's got a deck so I feel the need to make the most of it. Because, why not? Hellloooo, ladies and gents. Today is the first day of summer! Tornado warnings are blaring on my TV screen as I type, just in time for it. Anywhoo, I got this dress at Desigual in Spain. To be quite honest, most of their stuff isn't really my style -- Howevs! I really liked this patchwork print dress. I'm a sucker for any clothing that appears as if someone closed their eyes, stuck their hand in a box of various knick-knacks and fabrics, and were forced to sew them all together by gunpoint (regardless if they match or not). Also, MY SHOES. They are from Berksha, also purchased in Spain. LOVE. Maybe these things don't even go together, and maybe I shouldn't wear them together, but what can I say...

Now, I know I buy a lot of silly things. But -- this might be one of the silliest. I mean, even I was like, "Really, do you NEED sparkly silver glitter shoes? PLATFORM shoes, no less? No seriously, Melissa, you don't. Where are you going to wear these to unless you are constantly going to a 70s disco club every night?" But somehow I just told myself to stfu because I was going to see Florence + The Machine last night and yes, indeed, I needed sparkly shoes to fit the bill. So there. And I wore them today, too, in the daylight. And they were fantastic, self. Thank you for asking. Now don't give me any lip.

So! In Barcelona I went to the Dali Theater-Museum (which is actually in Figueres, two hours away via train!) and saw loads of Dali's artwork. It was pretty amazing to see the artwork up close and see how painstakingly detailed everything was. The 'museum' was actually an old theater transformed into a multi-level gallery of all sorts of crazy surreal art from Dali. And welp, since I am a total tourist, and I love this his painting Dream Caused by the Flight of a Bee Around a Pomegranate a Second Before Awakening, I got a pretty sweet (and possibly overpriced, but whatevs) t-shirt of it there. But I love it, and it's a little memento of how cool it was to be there. A pretty awesome experience!

I really love this chambray shirt I got from J.Crew, but most of the time I'm in jeans, so unless I am going for the texas tuxedo look (which I have done, don't hate plz), I don't really wear it all that much. BUT. I had a party to go to so I'm breakin' out the leather shorts and heart tights (which seem to be a staple for a lot of fashion bloggers, lately) and rocking it out, for sure. Speaking of rocking, rocking horse necklaces are kinda rad too.
